52 And Still A Big Baby
I have tried to post here at least once a month but theres always something that seems to find me putting it off again and again. Selective procrastination. It's important to me that I update you as often as possible. The last few months have been interesting to say the least. As you probably know, the Meat Loaf tour was cut short and I found myself back home roughly three weeks sooner than expected. I used that time to do some long overdue home-work. Mundane stuff really. I was never good at finishing my homework. Before I knew it, it was time to pack again and head out for the Todd tour. It's been a gas. It's been just what I needed after three weeks of boring homework. Besides, the teacher's just gonna fail me anyway. So, I ran away with the Circus.
One thing thats been especially cool for me is working with Mike Urbano. As a sometimes Bass Player, there are a handful of Drummers that make a big difference in the enjoyment level on stage. Willie Wilcox, Prairie Prince, Kenny Aronoff, John Miceli to name a few. I first met Michael in San Fransisco while recording a track on Todd's 'Nearly Human' record. I had known of his work with Bourgeois / Tagg and thought he was excellent. In any case, this tour was the first time I really got to work with him for more than one day on more than one song and I'm adding him to my list of favorite's. A real special person too.
Ok, enough Michael.
I'm working on some new songs (yes I know I've said that a million times). I should have something for you all to hear very soon.
And now the most important thing ... actually, the reason I sat myself down to write this in the first place (I got sidetracked).
Day before yesterday was my 52nd Birthday. I woke up to a couple calls from my family wishing me a Happy Birthday but two other things touched me most.
First were the emails I received from friends and fans from all over the world.
Second was the Birthday video posted on Youtube. How lucky am I?
I can't begin to tell you how good it made me feel. That you took the time out of your day to do this for me. It was the best gift I could have ever gotten. I truly am blessed to be surrounded by such a wonderful group of people.
If I didn't answer your Bday email personally please accept this as my thank you for everything you do for me.
Thats about it for now. It's late and Mr. Sandman is beckoning....
I love you all.

Hey Kasim,
Great show last night in Philadelphia. When you didn't come out for the post-concert meet and greet, Jesse mentioned that you took off right away to head back home to Staten Island. I noticed that your birthday blog entry is dated 1:30 am this morning. Did you actually drive from Philly to Staten Island, then post your journal entry? Where do you get the energy?

Hi Kasim!
We are all happy that you enjoyed your birthday video. We had a lot of fun doing it. It was the least we could do for all that you have done and I am sure will continue to do for us!
We love you too!
Adele
Kasim,
Happy Late Birthday to you, hope all is well. It was great meeting all of you in Florida, what an adventure!
I really love your cd i got when I was at Alligator Ally. I was wondering are you and Todd going to be performing in California? I wasn't able to make your last shows here due to work but I guarantee I'll be there for the next show.

Kasim:
Happy Belated Birthday!
The show at the Gramercy in NYC last night, rocked. You looked your usual dapper self.
How cool to see you and Todd together....yet again. You and Mike were laying' it down. Love Urbano. If Prarie isn't there, or Willie of course, Mike rips it up just fine.
Looking forward to Thursday at the Pony. Hope the show doesn't get snowed-out.
Dude...what's your secret? You don't age. WTF?
Tony
Hey, Kas? God bless, good luck, and remember that Dongan Hills considers you Oakwood butt one of our shmucks.
and the Original DEA rule!

Hi Kasim,
I saw you with Todd last night in Northampton, MA. I've been a fan since the early 80s. I was turned away from a 21-and-over show of the A Capella tour for being underage (one of the most disappointing things that happened to me all that year!).
I've loved your work with Todd all along, especially your work with The New Cars. As a Benjamin Orr fan, I can't think of anyone who could have stepped into his role the way you did. The way that you, Todd, and Prairie respected the feel of the original material while at the same time innovating within it and not "phoning in" carbon copies of the original sound has been so great to watch.
But last night's show at the Calvin was stupendous. Having never gotten to see Utopia play live (sniff!), hearing you launch into "Trapped" was such an unexpected treat.
In closing, I've got to say (as a fretless electric player and high school jazz band teacher) that your chops --- both bass and vocals, but particularly in combination --- are second to none.
Thanks for all of the wonderful music

Anyway, really hope to hear from you soon!
Much love,
Melissa
And by the way...Happy Belated!...Still as gorgeous as ever!
Dude I know I joked with you on the phone (offline during the ErrorFM.com Todd-A-Thon) that when you sang "Eternal Love" on Ra I knew you were singing it just to me, but I didn't realize you were only four years older than me. Hey that was do-able! Well, I was still technically jail-bait back then...
So my birthday is March 5 but I guess it is a bit out of the way between Florida and Texas to swing through NC for a private party for me. I do have our chat posted at http://deaconlight.com/kasim. Drop by and say hello sometime!
