Chicago 6 - 3 - 06

We played our first completely sold out show tonight. It was really cool. There was about 14,000 people in attendance at a venue here that I haven't had the pleasure of performing at before.
The set up was kinda weird. I took a walk around before our show and was surprised to see so many people on the lawn section having picnics. Blankets spread out, wine in nice glasses being poured, fine cheeses with water crackers, Olive Tapanade, tomato Brioche, Pate'... The list is endless.
In any case, there must have been ten thousand people on the lawn alone. The funny thing is, you really couldn't see the stage from most of the grass area. I think this particular venue lends itself to more of the symphonic concert than the more 'visual' rock and roll show.
It's been a great first two weeks and we have twelve shows under our collective belts. Just as I predicted, the band has gone from being somewhat cautiously tentative, to comfortably assured. We're all familiar enough with the set and our individual parts that we can now just enjoy the show without having to think too much about it.
I'm having a really great time playing with Todd again, it's been a long time since I have played in a band like this with him.
We're on our way to Cleveland as I write this and I'm on a moving bus so forgive any typos.
I know I haven't been posting any pictures ... My bad. I'm not being lazy on purpose, but I'm not the best at remembering to bring my camera along to the gig. I'll fix that over the next few shows.
I've been visiting the pre-show party area every so often. I do a little standup routine that seems to get some laughs and I'm even thinking about subjecting the people there to a song or two on acoustic guitar. I don't know if I'll ruffle any feathers by doing that but it seems like a nice gesture. I'll let you know if I decide to do it ... AFTER the fact of course.
Anyway, I hope those of you who have come to any of the shows so far are enjoying it. It's a pretty cool concert. One that I'm glad to say I'm a part of.
